Nancy Lane is an illustrator specializing in drawing and painting people and animals for picture books. She works in watercolor and ink. Her Asian style features a flowing, calligraphic outline and muted, harmonious watercolors, creating a sense of grace and serenity. Her more realistic watercolor style can portray detailed emotion in the faces of people and animals, as well as a wide variety of moods using light and shadows in the background.
She has been honing these styles, and pleasing such long-term clients as Scholastic, Barron’s Educational Series, and Highlights Magazine since the mid-1980s. Nancy has a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and previously has worked as an art director at a Houston, Texas, agency, where she learned design and printing. She has two grown children, and lives with her husband and two rescued dogs in New York’s Finger Lakes region.
