Deborah Bruss

Bio:

I began writing in my mid-30's after reading hundreds of wonderful children's books to my two young boys. At first, I freelanced for several newspapers and magazines - mostly humorous, educational columns. My first picture book,"Book! Book! Book!," was published in 2001 and is still in print. I have a backpack full of puppets who travel with me to schools and libraries. They pair up with the audience to help tell the story. We have a great time!
Researching and writing for the non-fiction series, "America's Notable Women" (Apprentice Shop Books) brings me places I never had imagined. The hardest part is trying to pack each one of their amazing lives into 550 words, a timeline and a few sidebars.
My first board book, "Big Box for Ben," was published in the spring of 2011. Ben is planning on more box-adventures, so stay tuned.
I live in Concord, NH, with twin teen girl (and sometimes a few extra friends), 2 rescued dogs, a black cat who attacks my printer, and a supportive hubby. My oldest son is a farrier and blacksmith. My youngest son is at grad school and makes the best traveling companion.
My favorite places: Sebago Lake in Maine, Lake Todd and Bradford Center (NH), coffee shops with my lap top, and dining room tables with my writers' group.
