Bio:

Shutta Crum: I am the author of two novels, SPITTING IMAGE (a VOYA "Top Shelf" choice, and listed on the NY Public Library's "100 Titles for Reading and Sharing"), and THOMAS AND THE DRAGON QUEEN. I also have ten picture books out including THE BRAVEST OF THE BRAVE (an IRA/CBC Children’s Choices winner), THUNDER-BOOMER! (4 starred reviews, SLJ's "Best of the Year" list, and an ALA and a Smithsonian Magazine "Notable Book for Children"), and my most recent book MINE! (four starred reviews, a NY Times review, and an SLJ "Best Book of the Year" for 2011). In addition, many of my titles have appeared on the Bank Street College’s "Best Children’s Books of the Year" lists, or have been short-listed for various state awards.

I also write poetry for adults, and magazine articles for teaching and writing journals. And I travel to speak at conferences, at libraries and at schools. In 2005 I was invited to read at the White House Easter Egg Roll, and in 2010 I toured American military schools across Japan by invitation.
