Bio:
Whitney has been writing children's books and editing for two decades. Her first two books were biographies of the 14th Dalai Lama whom she met and interviewed in India several times. Her next books were biographies of Sir Edmund Hillary, with whom she trekked in Nepal, and Aung San Suu Kyi, whom she interviewed in Burma. She has also written biographies on Deng Xiaoping and Mao Zedong of China.
Whitney then turned to American subjects, writing on Abe Lincoln, Walt Disney, and Nantucket shipwrecks. She also explored the music world in two of her novels about young musicians, and she's currently writing a YA novel set in New Orleans.
Whitney survived Katrina (thanks to help from SCBWI) and still lives in New Orleans with her husband and son. She has done author tours all across America, in Europe, and in Japan, and she's always up for an adventure.
