Bio:

Amy Butler Greenfield was on her way to a history Ph.D. when she gave into temptation and became a writer.

Her first book, Virginia Bound, a middle-grade historical novel, was selected as one of the Best Books of the Year by the Bank Street College of Education and won the Beacon of Freedom Award for children's history writing. Her next book, A Perfect Red, a narrative history written for adults, garnered high praise from critics. Among other honors, it won the 2006 PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction by an American author and the 2008 Veolia Prix du Livre Environnement.

Amy’s first YA novel, Chantress, about a girl who sings magic in a world that forbids it, debuts in 2013 from McElderry Books / S&S.

Raised in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, Amy studied history at Williams College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Oxford University. She now lives with her family on the edge of the Cotswolds in England, where she writes, bakes double-dark-chocolate cake, and plots mischief.
