Bio:
Born in NYC, I started drawing as a child perched on a pile of telephone books, on a chair in the studio of my artist grandma. After studying architecture at Cornell, fine arts in London, and design (BFA) at CCA in Oakland, California, I began work in design and illustration for children's publishers. In 1987 I moved to Hamburg, Germany, where I married and had a son. My first picture book, Mrs. Peachtree and the 8th Avenue Cat by Erica Silverman, was followed by The Blue Hill Meadows by Cynthia Rylant, The Promise Quilt by Candice F. Ransom, The 18 Penny Goose, a picture book version of Anne of Green Gables, and others. Returned to the States '97. My best work is historical fiction and non-fiction. My influences are paintings from the Dutch genre and 19th century German/Scandinavian, rich in detail and sumptuous lyricism. My medium is watercolor, body-color and pencil on paper.
