Bio:
Shirley Smith Duke writes for children of all ages. No Bows! is her first picture book, a story for toddlers about a little girl with her own ideas. Her YA horror book in the Night Fall series, Unthinkable, published by Darby Creek, was selected as a YALSA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. She's written eight science books and two math books for Rourke. She's written ten ESL e-books for Compass Media, located in Korea.
Shirley also writes teacher guides for Peachtree wrote eight privately commissioned books for a Dallas area businessman and ghost wrote a picture book.
She taught science, reading, and ESL for twenty-five years in elementary school, middle school, and high school in San Antonio, Dallas, and Garland. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in education from Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Shirley's interest in children's books grew from her love of reading and she has been writing for children for the past twelve years. Her interests include reading, cooking, and gardening. She lives in the Dallas area and the Jemez New Mexico mountains with her husband.
