Gail Maki Wilson

Bio:

Living in the Sonoran desert of Arizona since she was a child, Gail enjoys everything the great outdoors has to offer. Her love for nature has been a great influence on her work as a writer/illustrator. Since receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Arizona State University, Gail has spent more than twenty-five years working in the field of creative arts. A self proclaimed “Jack of all trades” she enjoys applying her love of art and design to everything she does. She also doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty! Her backyard is home to her very own studio which she and her husband designed and built themselves.

Gail works in a number of different styles to suit different projects, ranging from color realism, using a combination of a graphite, colored pencil, and pastel, to graphic collage work, using a combination of traditional cut-paper and digital collage.

Her background in Graphic Design was a natural step into the world of children’s picture books. The conception of ideas, words, and images brought to life through the pages of a book is a designer’s dream. In 2001 she joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and began the journey of perfecting this craft, and realizing this dream.
