Bio:

I write and occasionally illustrate for children and adults, and I'm the former Coordinator of SCBWI Queensland, Australia.

I'm also been on the management committee of the Children's Book Council of Australia, judge the Dorothy Shaw Writing Competition for Deaf Australia, love working with Room to Read and assist Book Links Queensland Inc. as they aim to develop a Children's Literature Centre in Brisbane.

There are always many projects in progress, at present a YA creative biography, a junior mystery novel, picture book texts and an artist's book collaboration.

My first books came out in 1987. Recent titles include '101 Things To Do Before You Grow Up' (co-written with Sofija Stefanovic and George Ivanoff) and 'Practical Calligraphy' pub. Hinkler books in 2009 and 2010. 'Calligraphy for Greetings Cards and Scrapbooking' was released in October 2012 by GMC Publications (UK).

In past lives I've been an ecologist, nature reserve warden, museum curator and high-school science and art teacher.

My business, 'Peter Taylor's Calligraphics', focuses on calligraphy, illumination of letters and decorative borders, paper-making and handmade book creation, and teaching the skills involved. World Expo '88 commissioned a handwritten and handmade book to present to Queen Elizabeth II of England at its opening, as part of their gift.

It is always a pleasure to help others when I can.

Workshops and talks can be provided anywhere to groups of any age. Possible topics include: 'Writing and Books through the Ages' - a hands-on excursion through 4,000 years; 'Visual Literacy'; 'Enjoying Words'; 'Getting a Book Published'; 'Writing Picture Books'; Encouraging Reading, Writing and Creativity'; A range of 'Illustration Skills'; 'Artists Books'; 'Book Cover Design' ...and more. I'm represented by the Margaret Kennedy Agency and as a speaker by Speakers Ink.
