In 2004, Leeza changed direction on her path of creativity and fell in love with children’s book illustration. She immediately joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)—as well as several local organizations to help better herself as an illustrator. During the process she discovered a love of writing, too.

At the 2009 Winter SCBWI New York conference, she was awarded the Tomie de Paola Portfolio Award and as a result, has signed her debut picture book contract with G P Putnam’s Sons/Penguin. Dog Gone! which is due out in the Spring of 2012. Other illustrated books include: Bored Bella Learns about Fiction and Non-Fiction (Picture Window Books, 2010) and Eat Your Math Homework (Charlesbridge, 2011).
