Bio:
Dorina Lazo Gilmore is the author of three picture books for children. Her most recent book, CORA COOKS PANCIT (Shen’s Books), is about a Filipino girl learning to cook her family’s favorite noodle dish and tasting some family history while she’s at it. The book was awarded the Asian Pacific American Librarian Association’s “Picture Book of the Year” in 2009. The book is also available as a Smart phone application. Her other books include, CHILDREN OF THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY and A STONE IN THE SOUP: A HMONG GIRL’S JOURNEY TO THE UNITED STATES (Poppy Lane Publishing). Dorina has an M.F.A. degree in Children’s Literature from Hollins Unversity. She has also published poetry in Cricket magazine for young readers. Dorina splits her time between Fresno, California and Pignon, Haiti where she serves as Communications Director for a non-profit organization called Christian Friendship Ministries. Dorina loves creating new ethnic recipes in the kitchen, running with her husband, Ericlee, and reading to her two daughters, Meilani and Giada. They are expecting their third baby this November.
