Heather Soodak

Bio:

As a children's book illustrator, Heather Soodak thrives on the imagination and playfulness of childhood. Sometimes you might catch her secretly picking dandelions and making a wish as the puffy stems flutter like tiny propellers through the air, or making a giant splash in a nearby puddle as she giggles in glee.

Even since she was 3 yrs old, capturing life and characters on the page has thrilled her! Expressing humor and movement with bright colors, Heather prefers working in traditional ink and watercolor but also enjoys designing compositions on the computer. Her influences include Quentine Blake, Maurice Sendak, and Peter De Seve among many others. She recieved her B.A. in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design and continued her exploration of art and education at CSU Long Beach earning an art teaching credential in 2008.

Spending most of her life growing up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains feeling connected to nature and animals, she expresses the message of awareness and appreciation in her children's stories. She created an activity poster to help educate school groups visiting Newport Beach tide-pools and has enjoyed depicting nature in murals she collaborated on for the City of Long Beach. Her interest in travel also influences her illustration, incorporating exotic places and cultures.

Heather is currently working as an art teacher, freelance illustrator, and public artist in the Orange County area. With a true passion for life, she is enjoying every minute of it and is currently working on children's books to come! You may view her blog at: http://hsoodak.blogspot.com/
