Bio:
I have the audacity to write for children without having any of my own. What I do have is one of those dreary multi-cultural backgrounds. I grew up in India and recently moved back to the United States after five years in Sydney, Australia. The resulting crisis of identity infects all of my young adult and middle grade writing.
Two of my short stories have been published in the Los Angeles Times Kid's Reading Room. My story "Tamarind Rice" was sold to Highlights for Children.
I am also having way too much fun, than any one person should be allowed to have, in the role of Editor of Kite Tales -- the Newsletter of the SCBWI Tri-Regions of Southern California. Come take a read -- www.scbwisocal.org
I'm delighted to have won the 2010 SCBWI Work-in-Progress Grant for work from a multi-cultural/minority perspective for SANDALWOOD AND STONE. Additionally, my manuscript, THE INITIATE'S DAUGHTER, was accepted to the 2010 Highlights Whole Novel Workshop for Fantasy.
