Bio:
Tracy Nelson Maurer grew up in the countryside not far from the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. Her grandfather, the late Captain Harvey C. Almstedt, inspired her children’s book, "Storm Codes." This historically based picture book illustrated by Christina Rodriguez has won several awards, including the Northeastern Book Award Honor for Children’s Literature, the Jeanette Fair Educators Award, and the national Mom’s Choice Silver Award.
Tracy has also written more than 80 nonfiction children's books for schools and libraries, and co-wrote a trade nonfiction book, "John Deere," which was part of a series that the American Library Association included as one of its top nonfiction selections for 2006.
An interactive presenter and reader, Tracy enjoys school visits and young author workshops. She has also appeared on local television stations and as a guest speaker at several museum and organization events.
Tracy holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University. She lives with her husband and two children near Minneapolis, where she chases her curiosity and plays with words for a living.
