Children's Picture Book Author / Volunteer at Taping for the Blind
As well as being a children’s picture book author, I am also a passionate volunteer at Taping for the Blind www.tapingfortheblind.org – ‘Turning Sight Into Sound in Houston, TX, USA for the world.', a very worthy non-profit organization. I read the Houston Chronicle live two days a week, record a weekly program ‘This Week in History’, cover for many magazine slots and assist the Radio Manager with basic technical work, all of which is great fun. The Taping for the Blind team of five and 200+ volunteers are an amazingly dedicated and wonderful group of individuals.
I am working on a series of children's picture books called “Giving Paws for Thought”™, with Brian Teichman, Director of Development and Communications at Taping for the Blind. He has passed our project to a friend in the industry in NYC and we are endeavoring to have them published; each book will benefit a chosen charity: “Bumper – The Bunny Who is Blind”© to benefit Taping for the Blind and All Blind Children of Texas; “Bramble Finds His Forever Family”© - to benefit CAP, Houston - www.cap4pets.org. Any future books will accomplish the important task of helping many more chosen charities.
The name, ‘Giving Paws for Thought’™, reflects the meaning of both giving to charity and giving children topics to think about and look at from a different perspective. We also hope the series will be embraced by Twin Vision books; these books are specifically for people who are blind or have significant visual loss and where the original print text and illustrations are maintained and a Braille text is added on sheets of clear plastic.
It is an extremely exciting time and please feel free to contact me if you are interested in nominating a charity, or donating to our very worthy project.
My best always,
