Bio:

I have been writing most of my life. After graduating from San Jose State University, I earned a single subject teaching credential in English. I spent many years teaching high school English and learned much more than I’ve ever taught; young people have that effect. I have completed many creative writing courses at both the graduate and under-graduate levels and am a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature. I was accepted to and participated in Highlights Founders Workshops, the Pacific Coast Children’s Writers Workshop, the Big Sur Writers’ Workshop, and have attended many writer’s conferences in the northern California area. An active member of the California Writer’s Club and SCBWI, I also work closely with three critique groups specializing in children’s writing. I spend most of my time writing for young people, but write some adult fiction as well. Two work has been accepted for publication in up-coming issues of Highlights, High Five, and Stories for Children magazines, and my children’s short story, Helen’s Home Run, won first place in the 2011 Foster City International Writer’s Contest, Children’s Division. I have a memior in the anthology A Miracle Under the Christmas Tree (Harlequin 2012) and a story poem in 50 Funny Poems for Children (Thynks Publications Ltd.). I write book reviews regularly for the Sacramento Book Review. Book reviews are the main staple of my blog, The Write Stuff, (http://rosihollinbeckthewritestuff.blogspot.com), but I also blog about writing. When I’m not writing, I work as a substitute teacher, and I love to read and spend time with my grandchildren.
