Bio:
Dr Mark Carthew is an award winning editor, author & lecturer, well known for his books and series exploring wordplay, music, movement, drama and humour. His award winning, internationally acclaimed illustrated play script series VoiceWorks for which he is series editor, brought him together with some the world's leading children’s writers and illustrators and has sold over one million copies worldwide. Mark is also an elected Director on the Board of the Australian Society of Authors.
His latest releases also include the wacky joke, rhyme and riddle books - Newts, Lutes & Bandicoots (IP Kidz, Wicked Wizards and Leaping Lizards (Random House) and the recently released Witches' Britches, Itches and Twitches! produced with UK children’s illustrator Mike Spoor. His recent picture books include Five Little Owls illustrated by Mini Goss and The Gobbling Tree, illustrated by Susy Boyer (New Frontier)** WINNER of the 2009 Speech Pathology Australia Book of The Year Award (LOWER PRIMARY)** and the early childhood anthology Can You Keep a Secret? Timeless rhymes to share and treasure illustrated by Jobi Murphy (Random House) which was noted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia as a 2009 Notable Book, Early Childhood.
Five Little Owls and Wicked Wizards and Leaping Lizards were both shortlisted for the 2008 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards.
Mark was recently awarded his PhD in writing from Swinburne University Australia and a 2013 May Gibbs Children's Literature Creative Time Residential Fellowship.
His next Book - The Moose Is Loose! illustrated by Matt Stanton will be published by HarperCollins / ABC Books, June 1st 2013.
