Bio:
Hello there! My name is Jodi Kendall, and I'm a Curator for Wanderfly and regular contributor for several National Geographic Channel websites, including Inside Wild, Nat Geo Dogs, Mysterious Science and Inside NGC. My work is also represented on NBC Health, ABC News, iVillage and The New York Daily News, and in Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine. Notable achievements include writing content for the National Geographic Channel's Locked Up Abroad app for the iPod/iPhone and publication of my article Researching Wild Whale Sharks on the Webby Award-nominated Great Migrations website. Recently I did an on-camera travel story about my expedition to Borneo for Wanderfly.
Some of my international adventures have included tracking wild elephants through the rainforest, running with the bulls in Pamplona, touring lavender fields in Aix-en-Provence, hiking Scotland's Highland mountains, photographing orangutans in Malaysia, shopping at outdoor markets in Hong Kong, celebrating Oktoberfest in Munich, snorkeling with manatees in Florida, and swimming with whale sharks in Isla Mujeres.
Once I followed an eight-hour, overnight secret transport of a manta ray. On another trip, I was harnessed into an open-door airplane so I could snap photos of a whale shark aggregation. I faced my fear of sharks by swimming with seven species in an aquarium tank, got up close and personal with venomous snakes along the Kinabatangan River, and motored through a known saltwater crocodile breeding ground.
At the age of ten I completed a 210-mile, two day bike race. By twenty-five, I ran my first marathon. Next up? I want to climb the Matterhorn. The creepiest place I've ever been? Gomantong Cave. The most terrifying thing I've ever done? Flying trapeze school. I'm always up for trying new things, from aerial silks classes to beluga whale training to dog sledding. Some of the places on my travel bucket list include Iceland, South Africa, Australia and Costa Rica. I would love to study giraffes in the wild, go sky diving, and master my Spanish-speaking skills.
I live in New York City with my husband, two dogs, and newborn son. I hold an MFA in Writing from the University of Arizona and am an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrator's (SCBWI).
