Bio:
I grew up in South St. Louis, the youngest of six. An avid reader from the moment Dick, Jane, and Spot entered my life, the urge to write eventually compelled me to pull out my parents' old Royal at age twelve. For the next six years, I periodically tucked myself away and wrote short stories - that I allowed no one else to read!
Upon high school graduation, the realist in me regrettably packed up the typewriter and relegated it to a dark corner of a rarely-used closet. I decided to pursue a career that brought in a steady paycheck.
Thirty years, one husband, two kids, three dogs, and several career-tracks later, I discovered the compulsion to write was still in me, waiting patiently for my awakening. I graduated from the Institute of Children's Literature in 2008, and my love for the craft continues to grow. I've had both short stories and articles published in various teen magazines and a number of anthologies. My work has placed in contests in both Missouri and Arkansas, and I have an inspirational blog for adults: Real Life Reflections (www.loris-stories.blogspot.com) in which I reflect on the joys and pain of life, love, faith, and writing.
My focus in 2011 and 2012 has been and is currently my novel. I recently finished my first middle-grade fantasy-fiction novel and am in the re-writing process to prepare it for submission. . . I hope to be a PAL author soon!
