Mina Witteman

Bio:

Mina Witteman was born in a small village in the south of the Netherlands. Becoming an architect and building houses was her dream, until she discovered that all her drawings ended up in stories.
After moving to Amsterdam she took a course in creative writing, specializing in children and young adult’s literature. It was there and then that the twines met. Writing is what gets her going, writing scary stories in particular. She attended the 4-year course Fiction for Children at Script+ and finished an editing minor at the University of Amsterdam, followed by an internship at Meulenhoff Publishing.

While writing Mina found out that she was a true boys and tomboys writer. Her novels are without exception bloodcurdling adventures with lots of survival in them. She weaves myths and legends into her stories and often makes you wonder if there is more to this world than meets the eye.

Her debut DEEDEE'S REVENGE was published in 2005, followed by the publications of THE SUN SPIRIT in 2007 and THE SOUL SNATCHER in 2008. The latter two being the first volumes of an adventurous fantasy tetralogy Warriors Of The Sun, which is based on native-American myths and legends.
A series of 21 short stories - 'In Fiep Street' - with the illustrations of Fiep Westendorp was published in Bobo, a biweekly magazine for Kindergarten (circulation 45,000), as well as a series of 9 short stories - 'In class' in the same magazine.
In 2010 'The Cookie Thief' was published in KNIGHTS, DINO'S AND PIRATES, a volume of read-aloud stories for brave boys (Ploegsma).

Mina lives in Amsterdam with her husband and son. In addition to writing and teaching creative writing to middle graders and young adults, she works as a freelance subeditor/copy editor for some of the major publishing houses in the Netherlands, and she reviews for booktunes.net.
