Bio:
I am a Children's Book Illustrator who is also an aspiring author. I work digitally, and also work in 3-D, using polymer clay, papers and found objects. I have written and illustrated several books and are currently searching for a publisher. I am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and have taken Children’s Book Illustrating classes at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). With both RISD and SCBWI I have found warm, supportive and motivating communities with which I am fortunate to be involved. I am interested in illustrating other people's words as well as my own, and am also interested in other illustrating projects.
In addition to writing and illustrating children's books, I am interning to become a certified Pet Assisted Therapy Facilitator with an emphasis in literacy. My youngest daughter decided to study the effects of pet assisted therapy for her high school senior project. How could I not become involved with something so wonderful? Learning about it with my daughter makes it even better! I feel that these two vocations are natural companions and a great way to share two of the things I love, reading and the pets in my life! The unconditional love that pets bring to the lives of those around them is powerful. Reluctant readers are often more willing to read to pets than they are reading on their own. Pets have also successfully been used to teach respect and caring of all living things and have been shown to break the cycle of abuse in families.
