Bio:
I joined SCBWI in the summer of 2009; my first conference was the Michigan 2009 Fall Conference. The conference was amazing. I'd been writing children's stories for years (and have the stack of kindly rejection letters to prove it), but little did I know there was a whole gaggle of people who love writing children's books as much as I do!
What an amazing organization is the SCBWI - where published members mingle freely with us pre-publised hopefuls, imparting wisdom over cocktails and gourmet meals.
I've attended the Michigan Spring 2010 and 2011 conferences and am a member of a writer's critique group of wonderfully talented SCBWI writers. Their input and insight is top-notch and invaluble.
In addition, I entered a writing contest (Who is Edgar Krawly Essay Contest?) and was one of 13 semi-finalists chosen by an elite group of horror genre authors. I am a contributing writer for "Screem Magazine" (a quarterly classic horror film publication) and have written articles on the horror movies of Ray Milland and have an upcoming feature interview with Tippi Hedren from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds"
My day job is teaching literature and writing at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park. I am also pursuing a Master's Degree in Children's Literature at Eastern Michigan University. Last but certainly not least, I enjoy quiet evenings at home with my ever-supportive wife and our two canine children - Scout and Penny, both of whom are the inspiration for my latest children's story.
