Bio:

"Am I Like My Daddy?", my first published picture book, is a labor of love and means a great deal to me personally. Following the journey of seven-year-old Grace as she learns about her daddy who died when she was five, we watch her grow in hope and peace as she learns ways that she is like her daddy and ways in which she is unique. But above all, she learns that her daddy will always live on through her.

My dad died when I was a child, and not until I was an adult going through volunteer training to be a grief facilitator at Lory's Place in St. Joseph, Michigan, did I learn that I was not alone in my longings to learn more about my dad, even years later. Most books in the grief genre deal with the immediate time after a loved one dies. In "Am I Like My Daddy?" Grace asks more questions years after her dad has died, reprocessing her grief as she matures and has new questions. It is an important, but hopeful book. I want to use my personal experiences to give peace to children who have experienced an early loss. There is also an educational component in the book that gives practical suggestions to kids to fill in the incomplete memories.
