A transplant from Cape Porpoise Maine, Sherman Kew moved to California after graduating the Film/Animation/Video department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) ‘03.
His junior year short film, Nonstop Transcontinental Journey Across the United States, landed him the ‘Tiffany Rosen Scholarship,’ the only RISD award given to junior filmmakers, and his senior short film, Space Theatre, was that year’s festival closer.
Space Theatre also screened at the New England Film festival, where it took home both the Audience and Jury Awards, and at the Woods Hole Film Festival (WHFF), where Sherman was awarded the ‘New England Emerging Filmmaker’ (Space Theatre also screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and the Pawtucket Film Festival).
Sherman was awarded 2nd place for his work-in-progress feature, Sending Sam, at the WHFF, and the same film landed him a top ten finalist birth in the online pitch contest for Storylink.com.
Since his move to Los Angeles, Sherman has worked in the art department on DreamGirls, Winged Creatures, Tony Bennett: An American Classic, Miss/Guided and in post production on The World According to Sesame Street, Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Watchmen. He also attended the Writers Boot Camp Think Tank program in Santa Monica.
Sherman’s body of work comprises of 2 half-hour specs (Miss/Guided, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), 1 hour long Drama (Justified), 1 hour-long pilot (Tippity-Top Secret), 1 30min multi-camera comedy (Golden Boys), 2 ten-minute webisodes (What if?, Creepshow) and has a number of features in development.
Recently Sherman won 1st place for his pilot Tippity-Top Secret at the scriptapalooza TV screenwriting contest, and is currently a finalist (top 3) at the Austin Film Festival for his 30ROCK spec Mid-Midlife Crisis
Currently, Sherman is working on a children’s book based on his junior short film, Nonstop…, and is writing scripts in Toluca Lake, CA.
