Bio:
I am a technical and a creative writer with a background of teaching English and Human Development. I have had a fulfilling career as a teacher and a techncial writer. I have decided to focus now on writing for children while working from home as a freelance writer.
I've always had a passion for writing. Over the years I have generated a portfolio of stories and poems, mostly for children. The writing is at varying stages: ideas, sketches, outlines, partial manuscripts and almost ready manuscripts. Some of the writing that is for grown-ups includes my memories of growing up in India.
Even as a young child I realized the vulnerability of children and their total dependence on care-givers. The helplessness of little children affected me profoundly. A few years ago I began to think about writing stories that would help children use their critical thinking when faced with a childhood related issue. The reason being that a lot of times when children are having problems, there are no trusted grown-ups around to support them or for some reason children are reluctant to seek help and suffer silently. I chose a tiger cub - a supposedly fearless animal - as the main character and wrote a series of stories each dealing with a shared childhood related problem such as fear, lack of friends and bullying. The tiger cub uses his 'thinking' to solve problems independently. I chose three stories from the five I have written to publish as one book, titled, Suraj the Tiger Cub.
I am currently working on a couple of manuscripts and dreaming about having my writing published the traditional way.
I believe in the potential of children to learn and perform beyond expectations. I will continue to write to empower children and in the future plan on writing to empower grown-ups.
