Bio:
In my twenty-year career, writing has been the constant. Beginning after college with a small city magazine, I picked up work with in-flight magazines, which led to a fun stint in pubic relations at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. A well-paying technical writing position helped me move to California, where I earned my master's degree. My master's thesis won an honorable mention from The University of Nebraska Press, and several of my poems and articles were published. I began teaching composition, poetry, creative writing, and critical thinking at El Camino College and at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Returning to Texas, I taught American Literature and composition at ACC and worked at Holt, Rinehart, & Winston, writing and editing teachers' editions. Eventually, I started my own tiny publishing company in 1997, which sold 10,500 copies of its first book, a picture book entitled The Ambitious Baker's Batter.
I stepped away from full-time work to raise my kids. Though not as prolific as before, I have continued to write articles and poetry. Having children also gave me an entirely new perspective, from which developed a manuscript written for children.
