Deborah Iwabuchi

Bio:

A native of California, I graduated from the University of the Pacific and came to Japan in 1978.

I started translating in about 1988, and worked mostly in marketing research for many years. I opened my own company in 2004, and got my break into literature that same year. I have translated three books by best-selling Japanese author Miyuki Miyabe, and the autobiography of artist Tomihiro Hoshino, Love From the Depths--these all fit into the YA category. I have translated other books, too.

I recently joined a sub-group of Tokyo SCBWI made up of translators, Japanese to English and vice versa. With the strong recommendation of the regional advisor, the time seemed right to make the relationship legal, and I look forward to many long years here with everyone at SCBWI!
