Jacqueline Harvey

Bio:

Jacqueline Harvey has combined a successful career in education with her love of a good story. This year she spent three months touring the United States and United Kingdom where she gave over 80 talks, introducing her character, Alice-Miranda to an international audience. Of course she had loads of exciting adventures too, including finding and touring the derelict mansion that inspired Caledonia Manor in the Alice-Miranda series and almost getting thrown out of The Ritz Hotel in Paris.

Jacqueline is the author of eleven novels for younger readers and a picture book, The Sound of the Sea, which was awarded Honour Book in the 2006 Children’s Book Council Awards.

Her bestselling Alice-Miranda series centres on the life of Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones, a perpetually positive and determined seven and a quarter year old who takes herself off to boarding school because it appeals to her sense of adventure.

Books in the series include Alice-Miranda at School, Alice-Miranda on Holiday, Alice-Miranda Takes the Lead, Alice-Miranda at Sea, Alice-Miranda in New York and Alice-Miranda Shows the Way. Alice-Miranda’s next adventure will see her in Paris – and of course Jacqueline had to go there for research! There will be at least ten books in the series.

Clementine Rose is a new series for younger readers (5-9 year olds) launching in Australia in September 2012. A spin off from the Alice-Miranda books, Clementine Rose lives in a neighbouring village to Alice-Miranda’s family estate, in a tumbledown mansion called Penberthy House. Clemmie lives with her mother Lady Clarissa, their faithful butler Digby Pertwhistle and her precious tea cup pig called Lavender. While the two girls don’t know each other yet, they soon will. The first title is Clementine Rose and the Surprise Visitor with Clementine Rose and the Pet Day Disaster to follow. Jacqueline is contracted to write eight Clementine-Rose books with Random House Australia.

Alice-Miranda is published in the US, UK, Indonesia and soon, Turkey and Clementine Rose will be published in the UK too. Jacqueline’s books are sold in over 20 countries.

Jacqueline has taught Infants and Primary school and was Deputy Head of Abbotsleigh Junior School in Sydney for seven and a half years before taking up the position of Director of Development in 2010. She has recently made the big decision to become a full time writer and speaker and is looking forward to working with loads more children across Australia and around the world. Jacqueline teaches writing and is a sought after speaker and presenter for both children and adults including writing workshops and teacher in-service.

Alice-Miranda At School was the winner of the YABBA (Young Australian's Best Book Award) Younger Readers section in Victoria for 2012 and an Honour Book in the KOALA (Kids' Own Australian Literature Awards) 2012. These are children's choice awards voted by the readers. The book was shortlisted for the KROC, COOl and WAYRBA's in the Northern Territory, ACT and Western Australia too.
