Bio:

I attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where I earned a geology degree. My love of the outdoors led me to northwest Wisconsin with my husband Scott after college, and there we put together a small dairy operation, built a house and raised two boys. We gradually transitioned from farming to other business ventures.

As an artist, I have done commissioned pen and ink drawings and sold my works in local galleries and art fairs. I have worked as a professional gardener, designing and maintaining landscape gardens.

I recently established an online shop at etsy.com where I sell reproductions of my pen and ink artwork, but I spend most of my time lately drawing illustrations for a middle grade chapter book I have written. I have a website for my illustration which can be viewed at www.jbuchanan.net. I've been a member of SCBWI for two years. What a great resource SCBWI is!
