Bio:
My interest in writing for children stemmed from a creative writing class in high school. Our class became pals with elementary students and we had to create a book (write, illustrate, edit, and publish) for our young pal. This was my most memorable high school experience. Later, I took a children's literature course in college and had a similar assignment. I knew that I wanted a career in writing children’s books. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to become an author and I didn’t have the confidence to pursue my dream. I did what seemed logical and became a teacher.
I have enjoyed teaching for 13+ years, but I have never forgotten what I’ve truly wanted. Now, that I have my Master’s degree out of the way, I’ve decided to pursue my interest in writing children’s literature. After completing a course through the Institute of Children’s Literature, attending a workshop with Suzanne Morgan Williams and Terri Farley, and joining the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, I feel that I finally have the tools and confidence to pursue my goal. Over the years, I have written several short stories (mostly humorous) and articles for elementary school age children. Currently, I am researching and seeking magazine markets and book publishers.
