I am seeking an agent/publisher for my YA novel. It's The Kids Are All Right meets I Am The Cheese about a girl with two moms who winds in juvenile detention after killing a man in self-defense.

Raised in an affluent suburb by her two over-educated mothers, 14-year-old Annabelle Macalester’s biggest concerns used to be winning track meets and covertly tracking her anonymous sperm donor. But when Annabelle is forced to fight off an attack from a homophobic neighbor, she fights back hard. She didn’t mean to kill him. Too bad the district attorney disagrees.

Shaken by a two-year sentence in juvenile detention, Annabelle tries to adapt to her new surroundings. It doesn’t help that inmate Shar, in for crippling her sister, has taken an uncomfortable liking to Annabelle. The only good thing about Shar is she protects Annabelle from Belinda, an inmate who has taken an uncomfortable disliking to Annabelle.

Annabelle’s barraged with the psycho-speak of her counselor and her case manager, unrelenting mouthpieces for the prison’s reformatory philosophy of honesty and self-appraisal. Even Annabelle’s fellow inmates push her to reveal what might have led to a 200-lb. man lying dead at her feet. Annabelle has secrets hidden even from herself, and while she edges grudgingly toward truth, Belinda’s deadly schemes and Shar’s retributive anger threaten her release from prison. To win her freedom, Annabelle must talk.
