Janina Pechova

Bio:

I have worked as a fine artist, commercial artist, illustrator and writer.
I have probably spent too many years at various universities, obtaining a BSc in biological sciences, a BA with honours in visual arts and history of art, and a BA in modern languages.
My paintings, illustrations and etchings contain a synthesis of colours, iconography, styles and subject matter that could be attributed both to European and African origins. The themes of my works are often fantasies or myths, or are based in folklore. Most of my works are light-hearted and humorous.
For many years I was the art director and designer of magazines such as Femme, Habitat, Marie Claire, Aero-Africa, Frontlines and Sidelines. I have also worked as a freelance designer and illustrator for many publishing houses and advertising agencies.
Intermittently I have taught creative processes and history of art at various tertiary institutions.
My main focus at the moment is to illustrate and write children’s books.
