Bio:

I am a freelance science writer for BirdBrain Science, a computer-based science curriculum that marries literacy and science, as well as children’s magazines. I also am working on several nonfiction early readers and picture books through the 12 x 12 Picture Book Writing Challenge.

My work has appeared in The Cavalier Daily (Charlottesville, Va.), The Daily Press (Newport News, Va.) and The Virginian-Pilot and Ledger-Star (Virginia Beach, Va.). In addition, I’m published in the magazine Aviation Illustrated and Essays in History, a history journal produced by the University of Virginia. I was awarded a Virginia Press Association Award for a series I co-authored at The Cavalier Daily.

I spent six years as a public relations professional for NASA, where I represented several aeronautics programs, as well as the International Space Station and Space Shuttle programs. I've also worked as a nonprofit fundraiser and grant writer.

Aside from writing children's nonfiction, I currently teach business courses for the University of Phoenix. I hold a B.A. in History and English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
