Bio:

Karyn received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama in the late 1970’s. She went on to teach Kindergarten and First Grade in Mobile County Public Schools. When she moved to Tallahassee, Florida to study for her Ph.D., she did not expect to live in Alabama again. But after teaching at The University of Texas at Tyler, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of New Orleans, she did move back and now teaches at The University of South Alabama, her alma mater!

Karyn is married to Jeff Tunks who is retired from the United States Coast Guard where he was a helicopter rescue swimmer. (That’s how she ended up back in Alabama.) Together, they have three children and a very spoiled cat named Maggy.
