Bio:
Story is my life from my early years fishing and haunting the gold museums in my Colorado, to back woods travel in Alaska, and then nesting in the richness of diversity in the Bay Area of California. I know story through art, teaching, writing, and now by verbal telling – important to knowing an excellent story.
As I like to say:
My second ‘Bachelors (how to compost, write, and illustrate the 'best' creative story) I earned through SCBWI; my ‘Master’ (how to tell a story), I earned from the Storytelling Program at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA; and from the Asia Art Museum in San Francisco I earned my ‘Doctorate’ (where stories originated).
Regional Advisor for SCBW before the I was involved, 1985 to 1989
Here is the link (soon to come) for a summary and information about the galleys newsletter and first Asilomar Conferences in Northern California.
Universities and Colleges attended:
Meritt College, gardening; Vista College and Laney College creative writing, California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco State, University of Alaska - courses in art, and child psychology, 1967 to 1998 my Bachelors decree was earned from the Colorado University at Boulder, BS - Education with minor in Art, 1965.
I am a visual learner.
From my childhood, drawing and painting were my ways of communicating to the wider world of teachers and peers. After much education in composition of story in written or verbal form, I am familiar with the word symbols and as well as visual symbols. Today I blended my visual and oral and written languages to create stories, of which I have many.
In an illustration or a photograph we can preserve an instance story. Now videos, slideshows, and DVDs are important parts of our seeing and telling about our worlds, which make clearer and broader stories! And with the development of the 'web' and all its connections, still photographs, moving video, or streaming voice we can portray the visual and verbal storytelling in many possibilities yet to be explored. These communication tools have become my main focus for my stories.
From illustrating to writing to verbal storytelling, from the performance of story to the production of written books, art shows, videos, blogs, producing ipod casts, CDs, DVDs, to self-published books, all with the help of the internet Bobbie Kinkead creates her publishing company, AS IS Productions for BobbieTales © by BBooks.
