Dana Carey

Bio:

Dana Carey began attending SCBWI France events in 2001 finally acting on a long simmering desire to get involved in the world of children's literature. She became a member in 2004 and joined the board of SCBWI France in 2009 working on publicity and a Writer/Illustrator Retreat that was held in Brittany.

Dana received a BS in Fine Arts and Graphic Design from Hofstra University. She then specialized in Graphic Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and worked for many years in New York as a graphic designer/art director.

After moving to France in 1994, Dana studied painting and life drawing at Les Cours Roland in Jouy-en-Josas while working full-time as a graphic designer in Paris. She received a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate from Rutgers University and taught English in schools such as the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles and L’Académie Charpentier in Paris where she created content-based teaching materials for a wide variety of students.

Presently living in Brittany, Dana dedicates as much time as possible to writing and illustrating picture books for submission. She is also a reader for international acquisitions at La Martinière Jeunesse publishers in France.
