Bio:
Beatrice Bowles, writer and storyteller, believes that world myths and wonder tales have lasting power to keep young minds alert to the nature we all share. Her company, Harmony Hill Productions, creates cross-cultural storytelling CDs and storybooks for children. Her Spark Catchers CD won NAPPA’s (National Association of Parenting Publications) Honors Award and was featured on Boston Fox TV 25 as “one of the top spoken word recordings for children of 2008.” Beatrice’s CDs feature original music by Louisville composer Sara MacLean.
Beatrice has twenty-five years of experience in creating storytelling programs which reveal surprising connections between diverse traditions. Mythologist Joseph Campbell served as advisor on her first recording, a collection of creation stories for NPR’s New Dimensions Radio.
She wrote about her own San Francisco garden in "Secret Gardens" by English garden writer Rosemary Verey (Ebury Press, London) and for CUNY’s "Children’s Environments."
Her own garden has been featured in "The Gardens of San Francisco"(Timber Press) by Joan Hockaday, Country Living magazine, California Home & Design, Town & Country, the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, and a 2010 book, "The Perfect Porch."
Beatrice is a director of the Miranda Lux Foundation which funds vocational education programs for young people. She co-founded Tango Califia which awards scholarships to young dancers of Argentine tango. She is a Fellow of the Garden Conservancy, and an Advisor to the San Francisco Botanical Garden.
