Bio:

The first boost to my art career came in first grade when I drew "the nuns in bed" with their habits on! Sister Venarda loved the drawing, and was amused that I didn't think nuns could get to school on time if they had to put all those clothes on. She told my parents to encourage my talent. From earliest memory, I loved to draw people, and make up stories about them. I received my BFA in Illustration, and MFA in Graphic Design and Painting from Rochester Institute of Technology. My first position was as a Graphic Designer/Illustrator for Geneseo State College. I moved to Syracuse where my husband was pursuing a PhD degree, and worked as Curator of Education at the new Everson Museum of Art, also designing their brochures. We moved to Burlington, Vermont, and I taught first at Edmunds Junior High School, and then at the University of Vermont Art Department. I also did free-lance illustration during that period. We moved to Buffalo, NY, where I was Art Director of Hoffman Printing. I left to pursue my dream of illustrating children's books and had my first contract in 1984. Simultaneously, I accepted a position to head an Illustration program in the Art Department of SUNY at Buffalo. I have illustrated 13 children's book for major publishers as well as educational publishers, and Babybug, Ladybug, Spider and Cricket magazines.
