Llewellyn McKernan

Bio:

Llewellyn McKernan is a children's
book writer, poet, and teacher. She
has lived in and around Huntington,WV, for over twenty-five
years. Her husband, John McKernan,
has recently retired from Marshall
University English Department, and
since the 1980's she has from time
to time been an adjunct English
Professor at MU. She has a master's
degree in creative writing from
Brown University and a master's in
English from the University of
Arkansas. She has worked with
children's book writers, George Ella Lyon, Marie Bradley, and Karen
Cushman. She has had four children's books published: More
Songs of Gladness, Concordia, 1987.
Bird Alphabet, This Is The Day, and
This Is the Night. Her poems have
won 75 prizes in state, regional,
and national competitions. Her poems and prose have been published
in thirty anthologies. Her work has been published in over 76 stage, regional, and national journals. She has been awarded
11 fellowships and grants. Her poems have been published in three
books: Short and Simple Annals,
Many Waters, and Llewellyn McKernan's Greatest Hits. Besides
God and family, she has devoted her
whole life to writing. Has it been
worth it? No. But if she had the
chance, she'd do it all over again.
