Kathleen Allanby

Bio:

My historical middle-grade and young adult fiction are set in Tasmania where my forebears were given land grants by the British Government to emigrate. Initially I did writing courses, and had short stories published in children's magazines, and middle-grade novels were published in Australis by Harcourt Brace. More recently I have been studying books on story engineering and kidlit by US tutors and authors, editors and agents, and I have two YA manuscripts and middle-grade manuscripts to develop.

I was born in Tasmania, the fourth child in a family of six. As a child I was an avid reader of storybooks and the classics from the home bookcase, and invented stories to tell my sisters. I worked as a secretary, and my early pursuits were active (dancing, swimming, tennis, and group hiking, and I played a banjo-mandolin in a Hobart dance band and Melbourne concert party. I began writing for children after having a family of four, and now live in Melbourne, Australia.
