Bio:
I was born in Wyoming, Michigan. From an early age I wanted to be an artist and a storyteller. I've always thought that the picture book format was a unique art form and I wanted to create them. Throughout elementary, middle-school, and high school, I took as many art courses as I could. After high school, I worked many different jobs, which included Retail Management and Banking. I also worked in a library, which was an ideal job for a bookworm, and it allowed me to study and learn from all of the children's books that were there. I loved the illustrations from the fairytales and also the historical fiction and biographies, which accounts for my working in the three different genres.
In 1997, I was able to go back to college full-time and I received my Bachelor's of Art in Art from Western Michigan University. I also have an Associate's Degree in Digital Graphic Communications from Grand Rapids Community College in 2011. I'm currently preparing my portfolio for my application to Kendall School of Art and Design in Painting (Illustraion. I decided to change my writing and illustration name to Holly McDuff because my last name can be difficult to pronounce. I chose Holly because of Hollyberry, my Cairn Terrier and McDuff from my West Highland Terrier. I love terriers because they are feisty and fun! My website is currently "undergoing construction" and will have a new design as well as all new artwork in the latter part of this year.
My main goal in writing and illustration is to provide an entertaining and inspiring environment for reading and learning for children. I want them to learn something about themselves, the world, and other people. Above all, I want them to enjoy reading.
