Leslea Newman

Bio:

I an an author and anthologist with 64 published books including the picture books, JUST LIKE MAMA, MISS TUTU'S STAR, THE BOY WHO CRIED FABULOUS, HEATHER HAS TWO MOMMIES, and DONOVAN'S BIG DAY; the middle grade novels, HACHIKO WAITS, and FAT CHANCE, the young adult novels, JAILBAIT, and OCTOBER MOURNING A SONG FOR MATTHEW SHEPARD (written in verse) as well as many books for adults. I have received poetry fellowships from the Massachusetts Artists Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts; a Parents' Choice Silver Medal; an ALA Honor, and many state awards. From 2008-2010 I served as poet laurate of Northampton, MA. I teach Writing for Children and Young Adults at Spalding University's brief-residency MFA in Writing program.
