Bio:

I've illustrated for the children's market for many years, and have over twenty-five published books. My work is also represented in children's magazines, such as Highlights for Children, and with educational publishers, such as Pearson and Scholastic.

I'm also adviser and instructor for the Children's Book Illustration certificate program at RISD-CE. It's a joy to work with the talented and dedicated students in the program.

I specialize in multicultural and historic subjects, from The Black Regiment of the American Revolution, to Basket of Bangles (about women from Bangladesh), to Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims. Combining art and learning in each project is a joy.

I have two undergraduate degrees, a BS in elementary education from Lebanon Valley College in PA, and a BFA in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design.

My paintings are watercolor, and I've added a textural technique with colored pencil in the last few years. Although I begin my work traditionally, I sometimes complete it digitally.
