Bio:
Christy Hale has illustrated numerous award-winning books for children, including Elizabeti’s Doll (Lee & Low Books), an ALA Notable Book that Publisher’s Weekly called “ A slice of perfection” in a starred review. Hale made her debut as a picture book author with the publication of The East-West House: Noguchi’s Childhood in Japan. The lyrical text and mixed-media collage introduce readers to Isamu Noguchi, the 20th-century sculptor and designer. The East-West House was a Kirkus Best Book of 2009.
Christy Hale has worked as a children's book art director and book designer for over twenty years, both in-house at Dutton, Putnam, Philomel, Bradbury, Macmillan, Four Winds Press, Macmillan, and Simon & Schuster, and as freelance art director for Lee & Low Books since the company's beginning. Other clients include: August House, Chronicle, Farrar, Straus, Giroux, Greenwillow, Harcourt, HarperCollins, Henry Holt, Hyperion, Lodestar, Little, Brown & Co., London Town Press, Lothrop, Lee & Shepard, Mondo Publishing, Morrow Junior, Museum of Modern Art, NorthSouth, Orchard, Scholastic, SixthandSpring/SoHo Publishing, Smithsonian/NMAA, and Tricycle.
