Gretchen Woelfle writes picture books, novels, middle grade and YA nonfiction and biography. Her first book, THE WIND AT WORK: AN ACTIVITY GUIDE TO WINDMILLS, led to KATJE THE WINDMILL CAT, followed by ANIIMAL FAMILIES, ANIMAL FRIENDS. JEANNETTE RANKIN: POLITICAL PIONEER won the 2008 Children’s Literature Council of Southern California Nonfiction Award and the Once upon A World Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center/Museum of Tolerance, WILLA Literary Award finalist, and several notable listings: NCSS/CBC, Amelia Bloomer Project, Booklist Top Ten Youth Biographies, Instructor Teachers Picks and more.
ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE: A NOVEL IN FIVE ACTS was a finalist for the 2012 PEN Center USA Award in Children's Literature. WRITE ON, MARCY! THE SECRET LIFE OF MERCY OTIS WARREN was chosen for the Amelia Bloomer Project.
When she is not traveling the world doing research, Woelfle lives in Los Angeles where she is writing even more biographies.
