Bio:

Mark Mitchell's books for upper elementary and middle grades include the Spur Award-winning "Raising 'La Belle'" about an early colonial shipwreck recovered off the Texas coast in 1997.

Another nonfiction book for middle grades, "Seeing Stars", follows astronomers at work at the darkest night sky observatory in the U.S., the McDonald Observatory in the Texas Davis Mountains.

Mark's illustrations have appeared in his own and other authors' books and many magazines, including "Cobblestone", "Appleseeds", "Faces" "Footsteps" and "Cricket."

Mark lives in Austin, Texas and serves as Illustrator Coordinator for the Austin SCBWI chapter.
