Bio:
Susanne Gervay is an award winning author with her children’s and young adult novels recognized for their relevance to social justice. They include the recently released US edition of I AM JACK, a rite-of-passage book on school bullying; BUTTERFLIES recognised as Outstanding Youth Literature on Disability; THE CAVE, exposing youth male culture; THAT'S WHY I WROTE THIS SONG a collaborative work with her song writer-singer daughter Tory, who wrote the lyrics and music that drives the story.
I AM JACK has been adapted into a play by the award winning MONKEYBAA Theatre and is being performed in major theatres in Australia and the USA in 2014 – www.monkeybaa.com.au. Her JACK books are currently in pre production for a feature film 'I AM JACK' to be directly by award winning director Nadia Tass.
Susanne’s books are endorsed by organizations including Room to Read, bringing literacy to the children of developing countries (www.roomtoread.org), the Children’s Hospital Sydney, Life Education Australia, The Alannah & Madeline Foundation, Cancer Council
Her stories are published in numerous literary journals and anthologies, with her story included in ‘Fear Factor Terror Incognito’ with Booker Prize winners Sir Salman Rushdie and Thomas Keneally published by Picador India and Australia.
As and Australian and international speaker, Susanne has spoken at numerous conferences and festivals including the Beijing Literature Festival, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival Bali, World Burn Congress New York, SCBWI Conference Bologna Book Fair.
Susanne Gervay is an author ambassador for Room to Read, an Australia Day Ambassador, a former Chair of the board of the NSW Writers Centre, Director of the Kids and Young Adult Literature Festival Sydney, RA of Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators Australia East & New Zealand, has been awarded The Lady Cutler Award for Distinguished Services to Children’s Literature and Professional Achievement Award for Literature from University of Technology Sydney and a deeply felt honour - Order of Australia.
Her acclaimed picture book 'Ships in the Field' (Ford St Publishing) illustrated by Anna Pignataro, gives a voice to children and families of an immigrant world. Her new picture book 'Gracie and Josh' partnering with Variety the children's charity, illustrated by Serena Geddes
