Bio:

Michelle Parker-Rock, who was honored to be named the 2011 SCBWI Member of the Year, is the author of over a dozen books, including the Authors Kids Love series (Enslow Publishers, Inc.), diverse authorized biographies of contemporary award-winning children’s book writers Alma Flor Ada, Joseph Bruchac, Bruce Coville, Christopher Paul Curtis, Jack Gantos, Sid Fleischmann, Bruce Hale, Patricia and Fredrick McKissack, and Linda Sue Park. She is also the author of R.L. Stine, Creator of Creepy and Spooky Stories (Enslow Publishers, Inc.), as well as dozens of articles about writing and literacy.
Michelle is a contributing writer to the SCBWI Bulletin, a frequent presenter at schools and conferences, and a freelance photographer and writing coach. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and a Master’s Degree in Education and is the recipient of the 9th Annual New Jersey Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award. Michelle has been a writing instructor for the Institute of Children’s Literature and has worked as a writer and a consultant for numerous book publishing companies. She is a member of the Children’s and YA Author Committee for the Tucson Festival of Books and the Arizona Humanities Festival Committee. She also serves as Literacy Advocacy Chairperson for the Arizona Reading Association and is a member of the International Reading Association’s Literacy Action Team.

Michelle's passion for stories, books, writing and photography began at an early age in New York City. As a child, a notebook, a pencil, and a Kodak “Brownie” were her trusted companions. Today she is a full-time reader, writer and photographer. Her laptop and digital camera are always close at hand. She lives with her family in Scottsdale, where she enjoys hiking, biking, cooking, doing yoga, reading, writing, watching movies, and enjoying life.
