Bio:
I am the author of four bilingual picture story books, Lupita’s Papalote, which in Spanish means kite, The Woodcutter’s Gift, The Battle of the Snow Cones, (both Tejas Star Book Award finalists)and Alicia's Fruity Drinks. All four were published by Arte Público Press.
Before I started writing, I worked as an aerospace engineering technician. In my heart, however, I was always a writer. It wasn’t until I was a finalist in a national magazine writing contest that I took a leap of faith into the world of writing. Since then I have written numerous articles for a local newspaper and national magazines. Some of my poetry has been published in anthologies as well. I am currently working on a middle-grade novel.
A native Texan, I have also lived in Thailand and Japan. I love to travel, pattern draft (which I learned in Okinawa), visit the local museums, and wander through the Spanish missions in Southwest Texas. Visit my Web site at www.luperuiz-flores.com.
