Formerly editor with Delacorte, then Lippincott. Author of more than sixty books fpr children ranging from picture books to young adult, and Illustrator of several. Published the popular guide to writing for children, HOW TO WRITE A CHILDREN'S BOOK AND GET IT PUBLISHED, now in its third edition, as well as many articles for writers' magazines, a column for many years in Once Upon a Time..., another for the early SCBWI Bulletin. Taught for the Institute of Children's Literature, AOL, the YMCA's writing program, and Bank Street College'se graduate school, and directs writing workshops in New York City and Vermont. Barbara is a member of the SCBWI Advisor Board and ran the first NY SCBWI Conferences at Bank Street College before the organization outgrew the space and became the institution it is today.
